Cooking rice in the microwave is super simple! Here’s a basic method you can follow:

Ingredients:
1 cup of rice (white, jasmine, or basmati)
2 cups of water (for white rice, adjust based on the rice type)
A pinch of salt (optional)
1 tbsp of butter or oil (optional, for flavor)
Instructions:
Rinse the rice (optional): Rinsing removes excess starch and helps the rice cook more evenly. Simply put the rice in a fine mesh strainer and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear.

Add rice and water to a microwave-safe bowl: Use a microwave-safe bowl that is large enough to allow the rice to expand as it cooks. Add 1 cup of rice and 2 cups of water.

Season (optional): Add a pinch of salt and a tablespoon of butter or oil, if you like.

Cover the bowl: Use a microwave-safe lid or a microwave-safe plate to cover the bowl. You don’t want it sealed too tightly, just loosely so steam can escape.

Microwave:

Cook on high for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes, stir the rice and then reduce the microwave power to 50% (medium) for another 5-10 minutes, depending on your microwave's wattage. The rice should be fully cooked and the water absorbed.
Let it sit: After cooking, leave the rice covered for 5 minutes to steam. This helps it become fluffier.

Fluff and serve: Use a fork to fluff the rice before serving.

Tips:
If you’re cooking more rice (e.g., 2 cups), increase the water and adjust the cooking time accordingly.
For brown rice, use a 2:1.5 ratio of water to rice, and increase cooking time to around 15-20 minutes on high, followed by 10-15 minutes on medium.
Enjoy your microwave rice!
