It's one of the worst providers you can find. There is a reason why they are so cheap. Uptime is usually good, but performance is typically *very* unstable. For starters, you will see very high CPU "steal" very often (it's the time your CPU will be taken away to service other VMs) because they are extremely oversold. Disk performance is also poor if you choose the larger SSD drives instead of the smaller NVMEs ones. It's known that they place caps on the speed of the SSDs and you can usually improve performance if you contact support and complain about it, then they will lift the cap. Also with the cheaper plans you get a slow connection. All in all I would not recommend Contabo to anyone unless it's for something not important all where you don't care about performance and reliability. If you care, there are many providers that are better than Contabo.


Personally I recommend Hetzner Cloud. They are a bit strict when accepting new customers so you hear about people getting banned right away without knowing the reason (Hetzner is very careful to avoid abuse), but if you open an account just fine then I think they are the best cloud provider at the moment, and I say this after having used or at least tried *many* providers. If all you need is cloud compute and you don't need managed databases or other additional services, then definitely go with Hetzner Cloud. There is simply no other provider that can compete with Hetzner's reliability and performance at the same prices.


If you can't open an account with Hetzner another good option is Netcup, also German. They are also a very good provider - just read carefully their cancellation policy.
