I have used both companies, each for domain name registrations and for hosting. I have moved my personal accounts to Namecheap. There are many factors behind my choice, but there are two substantial ones:

Security: I mostly use their inexpensive shared hosting packages as I do not require robust security for undeveloped properties. This does not mean that I wish to be able to cavort in my neighbors space nor let them into mine. Unfortunately this was easily done in one eco system and my calls to their technical warning them about the problem were turned away and disregarded on multiple levels. Bad juju.
Responsiveness: My experience with both companies was with using the same minimal cost services. In once case they treated me as a novice, no account customer, while the other treated me as someone who needing his concerns addressed fully and properly regardless of what class of account was being addressed.

Reputation, Loyalty and Business are all earned. Namecheap has earned theirs and keeps mine
